Corruption is a penalty for your income. The base percentage of corruption is calculated as follows:

%Corruption = ( LordCorruption + Total ProvinceCorruption ) / 10 + 2 * Difficulty - 18

LordCorruption is based on events, and can be negative.

Difficulty is 0 to 6 from Beginner to Overlord.

ProvinceCorruption = ( SiteCorruption + RaceCorruption ) * ( Administration reduction )

SiteCorruption is 10 for Thieves Guild, both guarded and unguarded. Bandit lair doesn't increase corruption.

RaceCorruption is as follows:

Race RaceCorruption
Centaurs 0
Dwarves 15
Elves 5
Goblins 20
Halflings 10
Humans 10
Lizardmen 9
Orcs 8

Administration reduction accounts for the effect of provincial buildings: Deputy's House (-30%), Judge's House (-50%), Town Council (-70%), Tax Collectors (-100%).

The resulting %Corruption is finally reduced by castle buildings: Dungeon (-10%), Court (-20%, the description claims 10% but it's actually 20%), Halls of Justice (-20%), Palace (-30%). The effects of castle buildings are additive with each other:

e.g. with Dungeon (-10%) and Court (-20%) your final %Corruption will be reduced by 30%. (50% becomes 35% or 20% becomes 14% and so on)

The maximum %Corruption is 60 + 6 * Difficulty.
